On September 9, rally under the slogan “Baykal without Baykal pulp-and-paper plant!” was organized in Irkutsk. Rally was timed to the V Baykal Economic Forum where ecological problems of Irkutsk region will be discussed.

On September 9, picket with demands to set political prisoners free was organized in Barnaul. About 30 people participated in the action. Organizers were Left Front activists and national bolshevists.

On September 1, 2008 illustrated declaration of the group calling itself “green bombers” appeared in the Russian blogs, particularly in the Live Journal.

On September, 2008, Valentin Usov, leader of the independent trade union of ALROSA was kidnapped. Workers of this trade union organized hunger-strike in August as a sign of protest against low wages and insufficient working conditions.

Full staff reduction is announced at the oldest shipyard in the country – Kronstadt sea plant. About 700 people will be fired – all workers of the shipyard. According to the data of Saint-Petersburg federation of trade unions, lockout at the plant is organized in the frames of realization of the arbitrage decision. In April 2008 arbitrage supported suit of the Ministry of Defense of Russian Federation and acknowledged registration of the Public Corporation “Kronstadt sea port” as illegal. According to the decision all plant’s property including 70 hectare land must return to the status of Federal state-run unitary enterprise.

On August 18, more than 80 workers of “Zelegosh-sahar” (sugar mill) went on indefinite strike. The reason of strike is non-payment of wages from May, 2008. According to organizers, former owner of the plant sold the mill and left for Israel. General Manager of the plant refuses to pay out the wages saying that the plant has no means.

Workers of the Tuapse sea and trade port are striking from August 13, 2008. About 280 people have participated in the action – machine operators and workers of the warehouse group of the port. Transshipment of metals, coal, cereals, sugar and others are stopped. It is about 5, 5 billion tons at the total sea-borne freight turnover 19, 6 billion tons in the year 2007.

Mass outflow of the workers takes place at the plants of SUBR (RUSAL group). From the moment of termination of the strike at “Krasnaya shapochka” mine 4% of the staff has left – 230 people. The total number of people working at the plant is 6 000. According to Valeriy Zolotarev, leader of the local, people quit by themselves as far as they see conditions are at the plants. “Workers see that protest has lead to nothing, wages did not grow, that is why they leave on their own will”.

At the conference of the labor staff triggered by the trade union, collective demands were made to the employee. The main is the rise of wages “in connection with the unexampled rise of prices on all the basic goods and services in Primorye”. If the employee does not sit to the negotiating table, it is possible that people will start the strike.

Strike of the gold miners started in Dambuky (Amur region). It the second attempt of the workers to achieve their goals. Demands are the same – resignation of the general manager, rise of wages and exam of the company by the public prosecutor. Until these demands are not satisfied workers are not going to return to their work in spite of height of alluvial gold mining season.
